Urology
What is Urology?
Urology is a field of medicine devoted to treating conditions associated with the urinary functions of the body. This includes organs such as the kidneys, bladder, and male and female reproductive organs.
With a more personalized approach, our urology physicians are dedicated to ensuring an accurate diagnosis and the proper treatment for urologic conditions that affect both adults and children.
Some urologic conditions include:
Overactive Bladder
If you struggle with a sudden urge to urinate, you may have an overactive bladder. The urge may be difficult to stop and can lead to the involuntary loss of urine. Management of an overactive bladder often begins with behavioral strategies, such as fluid schedules, timed voiding, and bladder-holding techniques using your pelvic floor. If these initial efforts don’t help enough with your overactive bladder symptoms, medications are available.
Bladder/Kidney Stones
Kidney and bladder stones occur when minerals and proteins in the urine create solid build-ups of crystals. Your chance of developing stones can increase from urinary tract infections. Your doctor can diagnose this condition with a CT scan or ultrasound. Smaller stones may pass on their own. Otherwise, your Urologist may prescribe medication or recommend surgery.
Urinary Tract Infection
A UTI usually occurs in the bladder or urethra but in more severe cases can affect the kidneys. It causes severe pelvic pain, back pain, nausea and fever.
