Lifestyle Medicine Fellowship Option

The Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum (LMRC) is a comprehensive, applicable, and flexible curriculum that prepares residents to make evidence-based lifestyle behavior interventions.  The LMRC was launched in 2018 to fill the gap in lifestyle medicine and nutrition education in graduate medical education.

The LMRC consists of both educational and practicum components.  Its education component includes 40 hours of interactive virtual didactic material, which will be presented during regular didactics sessions throughout the year, along with 60 hours of application activities designed to be completed over one to three years.  The practicum component enables residents to clearly demonstrate ongoing exposure to and use of the principles of lifestyle medicine in the clinical setting with patients.

Upon completion of the educational and practicum components, residents qualify to sit for the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM) certification exam.

Didactics

Didactics are held every Friday from 12 pm – 5 pm. This time is protected from other resident duties in the hospital and attendance is mandatory unless on certain offsite rotations or on vacation.

Mercedez Bernard, DO

“Growing up in a small rural farming community in southwest Oklahoma gave me an appreciation for the gaps in healthcare access our rural population faces. With that knowledge, I set out a career in medicine with a hope to return to southwest Oklahoma after the completion of my medical training to help bridge that gap. Fortunately, my path back home started earlier than I anticipated when I was able to complete my training with the CCMH Family Medicine Residency. Now, I have the honor and privilege to be the program director for the residency program that gave me wings. I feel that my rural roots, paired with the insight of having trained here, allow me to better prepare other residents for a career in family medicine with a dedication to positively impacting rural health!”
